Welcome

Quinte Midwives is an established practice since 2006. We are committed to providing safe, quality maternity and newborn care to families in the Quinte and surrounding areas. Our care is rooted in informed choice and respect, encouraging families to be primary decision-makers in their pregnancy, birth and postpartum care.

We welcome everyone regardless of age, sexual orientation, race, or style of family.

Our Values

Informed Choice

We recognize that your priorities, values, and decisions are uniquely yours.  During our discussions, we provide you with information so you can actively participate in the decision-making process.

Continuity of Care

It is important to us that you know the midwives caring for you. We believe this is important for personalized care, and for the establishment of a trusting relationship.

Choice of Birth Place

For low-risk clients, birth at your home, the hospital, or our clinic space (if eligible) are all safe options. There are benefits to each choice, which your midwives will discuss with you as part of your prenatal care.

Your Care

You will be assigned to a team of 2-3 midwives that provide care through your pregnancy, birth, and to six weeks postpartum. In Ontario, your prenatal care and birth are managed by a primary care provider such as an obstetrician, family physician or midwife. More information on midwifery care and regulation can be found here

Pregnancy

Your midwife will see you through pregnancy around weeks 10, 15, 20, 25, 28, 31, 34, then weekly from 36 until your birth. Lab tests and ultrasounds will be arranged for you. Partners and children are welcome to attend any and all visits.

Birth

We are with you through your labour, birth, and immediate postpartum care. Your midwife will remain in a supportive role if your care needs to be transferred to an obstetrician, such as for inductions, c-sections, and VBAC.

Postpartum

Your family will be seen during the first week for home visits. Routine newborn testing can be done in the first 24-48 hours. You are then seen in our clinic around weeks 2, 4, and 6 until you are discharged. Visits will include assessment of feeding and newborn weight checks.
